Live recording has made a comeback in Jamaican music after years of computerised dancehall beats. That trend continues on One Drop Anthems, a compilation album to be released by VP Records this summer that includes songs recorded mainly, on original beats and will feature the likes of Queen Ifrica, Richie Spice, Jah Vinci and Capleton.

Produced by Clive Hunt, One Drop Anthems was conceptualised by Neil Edwards, a senior executive at VP. “Contrary to what the minority might believe there is a big market for authentic drum and bass roots rock reggae,” Edwards was quoted in an article posted on Loopjamaica. One Drop Anthems include exclusive covers of Rod Taylor’s His Imperial Majesty and Steel Pulse’s Rally Round by Luciano and Ikaya, respectively. Another cover is Stepping Out of Babylon, Etana’s take on Marcia Griffiths 1978 classic. That version is from Etana’s album, released by VP in 2014.
