Tessane on ‘The Voice’ |
Another proud moment for Jamaicans emerged September 24, 2013 when Ranch Entertainment Recording artiste Tessanne Chin, spins four coaches in their chairs during her NBC ‘The Voice’ Auditions and left many Jamaicans at home and abroad and their Caribbean neighbours breathless.
The entire audience of the NBC ‘The Voice’ Auditions including celebrity coaches Ceelo Green, Christina Aguilera, Adam Levine and Blake Shelton were appreciative of her performance, the anticipation of which lead to twitter trend long before Tessanne took the stage. Popular Soca artiste Alison Hinds tweeted:-
Who’s out there watching @NBCTheVoice with me? Love this show so much! I hope our girl @Tessanne gets chosen! #caribbeangirlzrunit
While @BunjiGarlin responded to a tweet confirming that he was also rooting for his fellow Caribbean artiste
Boom!! RT @BUNJIGARLIN: @oblessa ok. I’m in it. Let’s go windians. Teamtesanne. @Tessanne #Caribbeanlove Our time.
Meanwhile almost every artiste in the Jamaica music industry was rooting for her, Mavado tweeted:-
As Tessanne belted out her rendition of Pink’s hit song ‘Try,’ coaches were spinning their chairs within five seconds of her performance. Christina Aguilera was first to hit her power button as the audience went wild, then like clock work, one by one, her fellow coaches follow suit sending the audience further into a frenzy. The voice of the Jamaican was sounding melodious, timely and well projected.

With all four coaches hitting their power buttons and facing Tessanne so early in her performance is a positive sign as the ‘Blind Auditions’ is arranged for coaches to sit with their backs turned away from the performer. The coaches decisions are based solely on the performer’s voice.
But it was not Tessanne’s performance alone that stood out, her humbleness, honesty and patriotism stood abound. When asked, like all the other contestants where she’s from, Tessanne proudly answered, “Kingston Jamaica” which immediately started trending on twitter. Coach Levine told her that she “could easily win the competition” while Coach Shelton Blake was quick to point out that it was not easy but, “you’re far ahead of the game.” Coach Blake asked Tessanne if she was “singing for a long time” and she answered “Yes sir, that’s my bread and butta (butter) back home” sounding off her Jamaican accent which fascinated them.
