Congratulations are in order for Jamaican/Canadian reggae artiste Exco Levi who walked away with the JUNO Awards “Best Reggae Recording” 2015. Canada’s music elite gathered to toast 35 JUNO Award winners at the 2015 JUNO Gala Dinner and Awards presented by SiriusXM Canada at the Hamilton Convention Centre. The evening’s festivities featured performances by a spectacular lineup of 2015 JUNO Award nominees and winners, as well as unforgettable tributes of some of the most influential names in Canadian Music.
Multiple Award winners at the Gala included alternative singer-songwriter Bahamas, who won honours for both Songwriter of the Year and Adult Alternative Album of the Year; and electro-dance sensation Kiesza, who earned Dance Recording of the Year and Video of the Year. Kiesza’s Magic as reported on Billboard, had a massive year with the ubiquitous reggae-pop single “Rude” from the band’s debut album, Don’t Kill The Magic.
Exco Levi who won his fourth consecutive Juno for reggae recording of the year, told Billboard, “Jamaicans love reggae music. They don’t see Magic!’s sound as a reggae-pop sound; they see Magic! sound as reggae sound. I’m happy for Magic! because it reach audiences that a lot of artistes in this time doesn’t reach….One thing I’m happy for is they are not in the same category as me this year,” he laughs.
Exco Levi first won the Juno Award for Reggae in 2012 with track, “Bleaching Shop.” He won the award again in 2013 with “Storms of Life” and for a third time in 2014 for “Strive.” Once again, the Ontario base reggae artiste walks away winner four times in a row with the 2015 JUNO Award Best Reggae Recording for “Welcome the King.”
