The legacy and life of Reggae’s great Peter Tosh, singer/songwriter and former member of the original Wailers (Bob Marley and the Wailers) band, will be recognised in a series of events between October 15-19 in Jamaica as well as California in the United States of America. Tosh will be conferred with the Order of Merit, Jamaica’s third highest civic honour, October 15th during the annual national honours and awards ceremony.
Two birthday celebrations will take place October 19th and 20th respectively in Jamaica and Berkeley, California. The Peter Tosh Estate is coordinating the Jamaica leg of the events, which commences following the national honours and awards ceremony October 15, 2012 hosted by the Estate and Pulse Investments’ Kingsley Cooper. Three days later, there will be a concert at Pulse Centre located in New Kingston. Said Cooper of Pulse, “Peter’s last concert performance before his untimely death in 1987, was at Pulse’s Superjam. Pulse has long held the rights to the video of that concert, some of which will be shown during the period of the celebrations.”
The University of the West Indies (UWI), will also stage a symposium on Tosh’s music, October 19, 2012. Peter Tosh was murdered in his home in St. Andrew,
September 1987.
