In response to the growing need for more medical resources in Jamaica’s hospitals, the Robert Marley Foundation recently donated equipments valued over $15 million to the Bustamante and Jubilee Hospitals in Kingston, St. Ann’s Bay Hospital and Women’s Health Network at a presentation ceremony held recently at the Bob Marley Museum in Kingston.
Jamaica’s Bustamante Hospital in Kingston, is the largest children’s hospital in the English speaking Caribbean. The institution received 2 Touchscreen Patient Monitors, 2 Mobile Stands with baskets, 4 Aneroid Mobile and Desktop Blood Pressure units, 1 Nebulizer, 5 Handheld Pulse Oximeters and a set of PP1 chairs. The Victoria Jubilee Hospital received, 5 Handheld Pulse Oximeters, 4 Phototherapy Lamps, 5 Mobile Aneroid Sphygmomanometers, 1 Fetal and Maternal Monitor with metallic stand, 2 Resuscitation Infant Warmers, 2 Examination Lamps, 1 fully loaded Ventilator and a set of PP1 chairs. The St. Ann’s Bay Hospital received, 8 Suction Machines, 7 Handheld Pulse Oximeters, 6 desktop and mobile AneroidBlood Pressure units, 3 mobile Aneroid Sphygmomanometers, 9 sets of PP1 chairs and 2 cases of Examination gloves. The Women’s Health Network Jamaica received, 1 portable Ultra Sound Machine.
Representative of the Bob Marley Group of Companies, Mrs Marie Bruce conveyed greetings to those in attendance from Cedella and Ziggy Marley both of whom founded the Marley for Health project, and in her address, noted that the Marley family is pleased to honour their father’s legacy, of living again by living for others. Mrs Bruce also stated that the initiative stands as a true reflection of Bob Marley’s philosophies.
The equipments provided by the foundation will better assist patients of the Special Care Nursery, Accident and Emergency, Surgical and Medical wards as well as the out patients,Obstetrics and Gynaecology departments in the various hospitals.
