With many concluding that Jamaican Dancehall artistes stagnant positioning internationally in other markets is deliberate considering the unprecedented trend of the music worldwide and its influence on new trending genres, Dancehall artiste Mavado joins the list of Jamaican artistes who have been given cameo showcases among Hip-Hop giants when he recently made his appearance on BeyoncĂ©’s ‘Formation’ tour.
Introduced on stage by DJ Khaled at Citi Field in Corona, New York, the Dancehall ‘gully gad’ performed his 2009 hit single So Special to loud cheers by the thousands in attendance. He was also one of Khaled’s ‘surprises for the night’ at the 2016 Hot 97’s Summerjam concert.
An appreciative Mavado later took to Instagram to thank Roc Nation in a post that reads, “Putting in the real work thanks to #rocnation and New York City to have me here tonight and to show me so much love and the love for dancehall music is real @beyonce we the best @djkhaled”
Mavado also shared an epic photo of himself among Jay Z, Busta Rhymes, DJ Khaled, Fabulous, Swiss Beats, Rick Ross and other Hip-Hop stars along with a post that reads, Nothing but the real it’s a big league iconic.
