Mavado in a somber mood at his home in Jamaica |
“my music is about my experiences and I would like to be able to deliver that musically, in true Rebel Salute style” ~Mavado~
With a slew of hits, the most current being “Nuh Inna My League” on his independent Mansion Label, Mavado return to Jamaica to perform at Rebel Salute 2016, now dubbed ‘one of world’s leading reggae events‘ according to promoter and artiste, Tony Rebel. His visit comes 2 years since his last to the island and insurmountable rumors that he was faced with deportation from the United States. Mavado spent Christmas at his home in Kingston and held a Christmas Treat for kids in his ‘gullyside’ Cassava Piece, community.
Regarded one of, if not, the only Jamaican entertainer to collaborate/feature on as many world’s top urban acts at any one time and arguably, has the biggest feature yet with Hip-Hop mogul Jay Z, David Constantine Brooks aka Mr. Brooks, looks forward to his first performance on a major show in Jamaica in 2 years when he entertains the Rebel Salute audience, “my music is about my experiences and I would like to be able to deliver that musically, in true Rebel Salute style” he told NIPnews. He intends to walk fans through the era’s of his Real McKoy, Gangsta For Life, Symphony of Mr David Brooks and Mr. Brooks – (A Better Tomorow) albums.
The self titled “gullygaad” has also contemplated burying some hatchet while in Jamaica could this mean it’s possible he might be reaching out to Bounty Killer the ‘grunggaad?’ Well we know he still respects ‘the general’ and he already made good, burying the hatchet with long time friend and popular dj/selector Foota Hype. The two shook hands for the first time while they were in New York at Mavado’s concert that was held at Amazuru in December. Foota Hype was a special guest selector at the sold out event.
Now in it’s 23rd staging, the two-day Jamaican roots-reggae festival, dubbed this year ‘one of world’s leading reggae events‘ will among it’s entertaining list of performers the likes of Beres Hammond, The Abyssinians, Mykal Rose, Sanchez and Richie Spice and will be held at Grizzly’s Plantation Cove in St. Anns.
