Ziggy Marley’s show of support for missing Nigerian girls |
Roots singer Chronixx and Sing-jay I-Octane each won three awards at the 5th annual Linkage Awards recently at Evander Child’s High school in the Bronx, New York. Chronixx won awards for Culture Artiste of the Year, Best New Artiste and Entertainer of the Year. I-Octane walked away with Male DJ of the Year, Male Recording Artiste of the Year and Performer of the Year.
NBC Voice 2013 winner Tessanne Chin was awarded Female Recording Artiste of the Year and Female Vocalist of the Year while Etana, Tony Rebel, Lady Junie and Sister Nancy each received Lifetime Achievement Awards.
Other awards went to Lady Saw for Female DJ of the Year, Tony Rebel – Promoter of the
Year, QQ – song of the Year, Steve Locke (Truck Back Records) Producer of the Year, Adrian Cunningham – Gospel Artist of the Year, Ginjah – Male Vocalist of the Year, Audrey Thomas (WVIP Radio) Best Legal Programme, VP Records – Outstanding Contribution to Music, Beenie Man and Queen Ifrica – Outstanding Achievement in Music, Irie FM radio host Ron Muschette, Tambourine Radio host, Anthropologist Dr. Kingsley ‘Ragashanti’ Stewart and Red Hot Radio host and hostess Wayne Hall and Black Barbie for Radio Personality of the Year while Jamaica Red Hot Radio received the award for Radio Station of the Year
The Jazz/Reggae Festival is longest running music festival in Los Angeles, and the largest student-produced festival in the nation. Every Memorial Day Weekend a tight-knit group of UCLA Students volunteer their time to put on a non-profit festival to bring the greater LA region to one, harmonious celebration of music, cuisine, culture and art. This year Jazz Reggae enters into its 28th Annual instalment with a two day line-up boasting performances by Ky-Mani Marley, Black Uhuru, Gramps Morgan of Morgan Heritage, Snoop Dogg, Kevin Lyttle, Sister Carol, Fortunate Youth, Aloe Blacc, The Internet, Georgia Anne Muldrow and Sarah Reich’s Tap Music Project featuring Lee How and Nico Rubio and more.
In the past decade UCLA Students have hosted musical artists such as Lupe Fiasco, The Roots, Naz, Erykah Badu, Ziggy and Damion Marley, Steel Pulse and many more. The group have pride themselves into taking their festival one step farther by instituting sustainable policies to reduce waste and promote sustainably conscious practices.
