Kendrick Lamar released a new song Monday entitled “The Blacker the Berry” featuring vocal hook samples by Dancehall artist Assassin aka Agent Sasco who shared a snippet of the Rolling Stone magazine feature on IG.
‘The Blacker the Berry’ which will likely appear on the rapper’s forthcoming, yet-to-be announced third album expected sometime this year, was produced by Boi-1da.
A Very Good Selection
This must be one of the best selection in years between an American rapper and a Jamaican Dancehall artiste. These two like-minded artists have stayed true to their musical root no matter what is happening around them. It would be great to have Kendrick on a recording by Assassin in the future.
Kendrick Llamar although absent from the recent Grammy Awards, won both “Best Rap
Song” and “Best Rap Performance” for ‘i‘ also expected to be on the new album. His most recent album, “good Kid, m.A.A.d city” came out in October 2012 and was nominated for both, Album of the Year and Best Rap Album at the 2014 Grammys.
Good Things Come To Those Who Wait
Assassin aka Agent Sasco made a memorable appearance on Kanye West’s “I’m in It” single featured on his 6th studio album Yeezus. Assassin began using the stage name “Agent Sasco” in the mid 2000-s as it has more “Google-ability” than “Assassin”.
‘The Blacker the Berry’ references the 1929 Wallace Thurman novel of the same name. Click the song title to listen “The Blacker the Berry”
