Singer/Songwriter Vanya Trillo Gopaul did not excelled in athletics, track and field or theatre as written in his biography about in his involvement in the various extra curricula activities after leaving school, “I had a happy upbringing and childhood” he said and though he was placed in an accelerated program called the International Baclarette (IB) with strict policies to maintain a high grade, music was his career choice.
Coming out, the rather handsome, Vanya Trillo GoPaul released two singles back in 2005 called Take a Ride and Who I Be , “I was so proud of the fact that I have gone beyond rhyming and beat bops it actually felt good where I could call myself a musician and acknowledge it as my full time career.” But is has never been a bed of rose, though he got to perform at events and promote his music via the internet and throughout the streets of Miami, Davie, Ginger Bay and Pembroke Pines, Florida.
It took some time to garner the support needed to enhance his full potential but eventually his mother/manager Paulette GoPaul came on board and things started looking better almost immediately. Paulette being a Property Manager with a knowledgeable background of international law, transferred her expertise to the business and created an administrative base from which to operate. The label, Higher Levelz Production was formed and connection made with key industry personnel in Jamaica; soon after Trillo was on a flight to Jamaica to record with popular Reggae artiste Capleton. It was on that that trip he got hooked up with Dancehall artiste Macka Diamond and the two recorded a track called It’s Summertime. “The vibe was right between myself and Macka we laid down the track and decided to do a video for the song.” Trillo went back to Miami and soon after Macka Diamond joined him and a video was done.
Recording with Capleton did not materialized but Trillo and Paulette GoPaul still maintained a good relationship with Claude Kemp who manages Capleton. “Ms. Kemp was always impressed with his vocals” said Paulette GoPaul “so she decided that she wanted him to perform at her annual A St. Mary Mi Come From event.” Trillo was back in Jamaica early August 2011, to perform on that show; with hired assistants Noel McKinson and Sophia McKay to promote his music across Jamaica, a tight schedule and much work to be done, Trillo made good of his visit. “I did some interviews on Hype TV, Up and Live program, R.E.T.V. Review, Pree Dis TV, Nationwide 90FM Pon de Corner with Johnny, News Talk 93 FM The Buzz and Vybz FM radio broadcasting from the parish of Westmoreland,” he said. The It’s SummerTime track by this was being added to the playlist of a number of djs and a campaign got underway.
High Grade Alone quickly became a radio song, “DJ’s are loving it and decided to give it some spins” said Publicist Noel McKinson. Online, the counts were climbing on Soundcloud quickly so Paulette GoPaul took the decision that it was time to set up an itunes account for the label. High Grade Alone is an authentic Roots Reggae single though the lyrics are “not personal” according to Trillo and has had several online and mainstream djs requesting mp3 copies for airplay. Noticeably these djs are located in California, Zimbabwe, Kenya and Italy. Trillo’s vocals are powerful and distinctive and he uses it to entice his audience wherever he performs. High Grade Alone is just one of his many artistic expressions of music that he would like share with music fans across the world. This is the beginning of a very long and fruitful career for this aspiring Reggae artiste, Vanya ‘Trillo” GoPaul.
